The ingredients needed to make Sambar Sadam:
  1. Take 1 bowl rice
  2. Prepare 1 bowl Arhar Daal
  3. Make ready 1 lemon size tamarind
  4. Prepare 8-10 Kadi patta / curry leaves
  5. Prepare Masala ingredients
  6. Make ready 4 laung,
  7. Take 4 Elaichi,
  8. Take 2 pieces dalchini,
  9. Get 1 star (Anise)flower
  10. Make ready 1/2 tablespoon methi dana
  11. Take 1 tablespoon Rai
  12. Get as per taste Salt
  13. Take 1 tablespoon chopped coconut
  14. Prepare 10 red dry chilli
  15. Prepare 1/2 tablespoon Hing powder
  16. Take 2 tablespoon chana dal
  17. Make ready 2 tablespoon Dhaniya seeds
  18. Take 1 tablespoon turmeric
  19. Take 10 shallots/ small onions
  20. Get Vegetables
  21. Get 250 gm yellow pumpkin
  22. Prepare 1 capsicum
  23. Take 1 carrot
  24. Prepare 1 potato
  25. Get As needed Oil
  26. Prepare as required Water
Instructions to make Sambar Sadam:
  1. COOKING RICE AND DAL - - Rinse together 1 cup rice and 1 cup arhar dal (tuvar dal or pigeon pea lentils) a couple of times in water. Drain all the water and add both rice and dal in a pressure cooker. - - Add ¼ teaspoon salt, 5 cups water and 1 tablespoon turmeric. - - Pressure cook for 15 to 16 minutes on medium flame. - - When the pressure settles down on its own, remove the lid and check if the rice and dal are cooked together.
  2. So when the dal & rice are cooking, you can also start to prep and cook the veggies.
  3. Now in a pan heat 1 tablespoon oil roast the masala
  4. Mix all the ingredients of masala
  5. Let the masala cool.
  6. Now grind the masala ingredients
  7. Heat 1 tablespoon sesame oil in a pan. - Add Rai - Add curry leaves 🍃
  8. Add 8 to 10 shallots - Saute for 1 minute on a low to - Medium flame. - Add the boiled veggies.
  9. Now mix the tamarind extract
  10. Add Hing powder and salt as per taste
  11. Now add the grinded masala powder and boil the sambar.
  12. Boil sambar till the consistency becomes thick.
  13. Now sambar and rice dal is ready mix them well.
  14. Mix the sambar and dalrice well. - Your delicious sambar saadam is ready.
  15. your Signature dish SAMBAR SAADAM is ready you can accompany with a side veggie dish, curd, pickle or appalam (papaddums)
